Howdy all, I've been a fan of Galactica since the old days, and while the new show was good, somehow the stuff you loved as a kid always has a hold of your heart, you know?
After meeting a bunch of pilots at Dragon*Con this year, I was really inspired to push ahead with this outfit. It was great to be able to see and compare different makers' outfits, in person.
I've been planning on buying a viper pilot outfit from BSG.org, but I didn't want to pull the trigger on it until I found the boots, the hardest part of the outfit to get. Well, I finally managed to pick up a pair of 1971 Full Bores, so I'll be proudly joining the ranks of the Viper jocks soon. Well, as soon as I get past this little bout of unemployedness.
I'm also in Rebel Legion as a Jedi and X-Wing Pilot (Hazard Squadron out of Sunrider Base). You may have seen me at D*Con this year as Mighty Muggs Chewie, or Han Sulu: Starfleet Jedi.

Welcome! We're glad to have you. I think there are some pictures of the Warriors you saw at Dragon Con around here!
I hope you're able to make it to Comic Con this year! We're having a competition with the Cylons to see who can get more people there in uniform.
Congrats on the boots by the way. They are a total pain to track down for sure!

Hi Everyone! Seems like a great group of people here! Nice to have a friendly forum where people actually help each other. Been a fan of this wonderful series since it first aired! LOVE the Cylons - although I have been hesitant to acquire one of those uniforms as I am only 6' tall. I have been making my own costumes/uniforms since 1983 when I constucted an Imperial Officer's uniform for the ROTJ premiere! Seems like a lifetime ago....LOL I live in the Los Angeles area. Anyway, I really hope to make some new friends here and celebrate our love for the ORIGINAL (and BEST) Battlestar Galactica!

Hi, My name is Eric, I live in Los Angeles. I've always loved Sci-Fi and costuming. My first BSG costumes are from the new series (and can be seen elsewhere) but I felt it was time to start work on a proper warrior costume. Here are some progress shots of the jacket: Now I'm waiting for the buckles I ordered from Katerra8 and to start working on the shoulders...

I did. I think I've gotten it pretty close now. (I, of course, made a few more minor changes to it after I finished sewing the jacket... just in case I ever do it again...)

Looks to me like a scratchbuilt laser, and an excellent one at that!
Grips look kinda like flourescent lighting lens material, the emitter looks like scored PVC pipe and the rest is likely a particle board or MDF base with sheet plastic greeblies...
Now that's some cool stuff right there... :thumbsup

Hi Felgacarb! NICE work! As a fellow costume maker, I commend you on your efforts! I don't know anything about prop making, but fabrics are my hobby!

Thanks! Exactly on target, gunnerk19! (Although solid pine instead of MDF) I made that prop back when I was 17. (Which was over 20 years ago...yikes!) With some added detail painting it ought to serve for a while. I have a belt to go with it, made at the same time, but it's not accurate enough to keep. So, that's probably what I'll work on after the jacket. Here's the jacket back: I've never done a commissioned costume part, (with the possible exception of the Tomb Raider gun belt set, but that was more of a gift, yeah, she was that hot...) I'd have to think about it. (And I'd want the person to see my jacket up close in person first...)

How fun! I dig the scratch build! Looks like you're making this thing from scratch, ground up. You are to be commended for your efforts!

Welcome everyone! Felgacarb, that jacket looks very nice! I'm going to be trying to do my own jacket, in blue, to match the bridge uniform I want to do. I've always liked this concept and thought that if we ever saw Adama or Tigh at the helm of a Viper, this is what they'd wear. Here are a couple of "Bridge Blue" warrior jackets... I found these pics on another board long ago. If anyone here ownes them, please contact me so I may give credit.

That first pictures is the basis for what Guinevere is going to be doing. Without the command markings on the shoulders. The blue of the jacket will more closely match the blue of the uniform though. The blue grey one is nice, and he had a second one, with blue piping. Very nice customs.

That first picture is of Starblade22. I've seen that jacket in person and it looks great! I believe he said it was made by Shaunn Lawrence. Will the jacket you are working on have different color piping or the same color as the jacket? Here's a pic from Galacticruise. I hope you don't mind Edward!

ok, that last picture is the EXACT intention we have for her costume. Perfectly done!!!! Thank you!!
No different colors on the piping. Just plain blue. The shoulder parts might be black or navy blue, but we haven't gotten that far yet.
Starblade22's Jacket is VERY nice!! well done!

That looks cool! Not a bad idea doing it in all the same color. I also think it looks cool with the tunic tucked in whenever a jacket is involved.
