Hi everyone!! I have longed to have a club/group like this. As a 7-year member of the 501st, I think we can give a lot of great direction to anyone wanting to make an original series BSG costume. I have always loved the Warrior costume and BSG is what got me started into costuming in the first place.
I have the complete warrior outfit as well as the blue bridge uniform.
I also have ventured into making fan films. My unique take on making them is to serve them up in short 5-minute 'mini-episodes' based loosely upon Richard Hatch's continuation novels. I call the ship, Battlestar Callisto, based upon my online BSG RPG game which a group of us have been a part of for about 11 years now!
I got my first Galactica outfit in 1998 so I have been doing this a long time. I am so glad to be here!!

Hi all , I'm Dave J , from Sydney Australia . I've been a member of the 501st for a couple of years , as well as Novus Ordo ( a Star Wars costuming club that has both light and dark side costumes ) , and I lurk at the Rebel Legion site ( one day I'll send in the pictures of my Rebel Fleet trooper ) . So far, most of my costuming has been in armour , so I'm not very experienced in soft costumes . A couple of weeks ago , Novus Ordo , and my 501st squad attended a Scifi con where Richard Hatch was speaking . Hearing him speak brought a flood of childhood memories back . How cool did Apollo and Starbuck look , low slung gun belts etc .Hearing that Richard and Dirk Benedict are both likely to be attending a con here in June got the old thought processes going . 6 of us got together and decided to give some old school Battlestar costuming a go . Looking around on the internet for costume info brought me to the Colonial Fleets site . I've joined up there , but due to an email address issue , have not yet been approved to post . It was only a small hop from there to here Somewhere along the way , and before I read that it isn't the best costume ever , we've ordered some Colonial warrior costumes from the Fantasytroopers site . It may need some work ; . My gun , belts , holster and boots are on their way from different sources . Anyway , that's enough from me . Let the fun begin ! Dave .

Hey, everyone! My name is Cheralyn ("Cher"), and I'm really excited to see something like this come together too! I've always been a huge fan of the original series, and am glad for the chance to catch up with other fans. Costume-wise, I have the warrior combat and dress uniform (it was one of my first costumes, back in the day...), as well as Serina's blue party dress from the original movie and a med-tech uniform. Prop-wise, I've got a few cubits, a deck of pyramids (anyone every try to actually play that? , and Commander Cain's swagger stick. And like some of the other folks here, I'm a long-time 501st/Rebel Legion member. It's good to be on board!

Awesome! Its great to have everyone here! I think this thing is going to be a lot of fun. I look forward to patrolling a few cons with all of you in uniform!
My name is Mark, and a few of you I've chatted with at different Battlestar forums for a while now. My uniform is nearly complete (currently residing with our squadron quartermaster Rachel).
Rachel, Ed, John, and I started throwing this group together after years of what I'm sure everyone here has been thinking..."how awesome would it be to see a whole slew of Colonial Warriors hanging out together in a 501st style organization".
What sealed the deal for me was Galacticruise. After meeting a few fellow Galactica fans and talking costumes and props I just got greedy and wanted to spend more time with people like that! Battlestar fans are some of the coolest people I've ever had the pleasure of meeting.
This is going to be a fun ride!

I guess it would have been good for me to introduce myself as well lol
I'm Ed and I'm a SciFi geek. It's just that simple. I've been a Fan of Battlestar, ever since the first comercials for it came on the TV in 78. I was hooked. I blame Star Wars for it lol.
I tried to never miss a repeat over the years. Cause I never could get enough. Always loved the look of the warrior costume. I'd wear a jean jacket while playing with my friends. Called it my battlejacket.
I got into costuming through Star Wars. I was one of the founding members of the Rebel Legion costuming group. And that was my first experience with costuming, since then, I've joined the 501st, and am now a Team leader for a Stargate costumign group, I've done a GI Joe costume and and now Very actively working on a Colonial warriors Costume, and prehaps a Blackshirt costume. (just to be different )
As Mark has said, I'm one of the people who finally put the idea of a 501st like group for BSG together and here we are. I think this is long overdue and I thank every one of you who has put together a costume and inspired us to finally do this.

*Darth Vader intro music* Dah dah didah da didah da didah
I am John aka KlingonGeneral aka Kronus. I have been actively involved in costuming since 2004 when I joined the Klingon Assault Group (KAG). I have also started my own Live Klingon Ship here in San Diego Ca (IKV SuvwI' po') and have helped build another Chapter ship for KAG in the Sacramento CA area. My goal is to take every city in Kalifornia for KAG!
Well with that same determination and drive I want to do the same here for our BSG Costuming Club! To have a Colonial Warrior chapter and Cylon Chapter in every major city in California and in every state and in every country and in this star system and eventually in this galaxy! (I'm not too excited about this am I...hee hee).
The desire I have first is to have fun. This is why we do what we do here or anywhere else...having fun must be our main focus and you and I all know this is fun!
I have to agree with Ed, Star Wars really set me up for oBSG when it first came on TV. I was 9 years old and had just watched A New Hope and I met Darth Vader during an advertized appearance at a local mall where I got his autograph.
oBSG was exactly what I was looking for when it came on TV and I fell in love with everything about, (Well I had a hug crush on Serina, she was one of my first crushes).
I look forward in having as much fun with all of you here and hearing everyone’s ideas on how to keep the fun flowing.

Hi all , I'm Dave J , from Sydney Australia . Anyway , that's enough from me . Let the fun begin ! Dave . Ah Sydney...it has been a long time since I was there. I was there in December of 1999 when the US Navy ship I was on pulled into port here. The USS Lake Erie CG-70... Ticonderoga-class Aegis Cruiser. I went to Adelaide (November), Melbourne (November) and Sydney (December) that year and man did I fall in love with Australia. Great beer (Cooper Original Pale Ale & VB! Victoria Bitter for you uneducated blokes!), great people and great fun!

Victoria Bitter!!! When I went down under back in 1988, that was my favorite beer on my trip!!!
Now to my question: when the country and world is broken up into geographic regions for the club, are the areas going to have squadron names or be known as "battlestar" or colonies?
Do you have any info on how the organization of the club will go?

Al, a good question, but not for the welcome thread Please try to keep this to just a intro thread. and light discussion. I will give you the answer though lol This is how we have it set up so far. Squadron = Legion Flight (regional by color or title)= Garrison - Here I'm leaning towards naming by title, giving people more of a choice within the area they live in. Section (Alpha and Beta, local) = Squadron - a sub division of the Flight, if you cover all of Cali, you can split north and south for example Patrol or advance scout = Outpost We have talked about having detachments, Allowing all members with a Viper pilots costume, or all bridge officers come together. I'd say we can call these "departments" but naming suggestions are welcome

Kronus , I remember when the Lake Erie came to visit Sydney . I went down to the harbour for a bit of a look, and couldn't get near . VB ... Hmmm ... Times have changed . It's nowhere near as popular as it used to be . We've had en explosion of much better beers come through from the smaller breweries . If anyone comes out here , I'll treat you to some treasures And while not on topic ... new detachment name , how about Barracks ? Warrior Barracks , Bridge Officer Barracks , Centurion Barracks etc ?

Oops! Sorry, Ed. Not sure where to put a question like this. I guess the "Anything Goes" board would be a better place...feel free to move the question there if you wish...
thanks for the answers..looks great!

Greetings. The names Dylan. I also hail from Sydney, Australia although I was born and raised in New Zealand. My good mate DaveJ pointed me in this direction as we are in the process of putting together Colonial Warrior costumes. As a kid growing up I had a fascination for Sci-fi and space in general. Star Wars had me awestruck and I wanted more of the same. Along came Battlestar Galactica!!! The adventures of Apollo and Starbuck and the gang had me hooked. I would imagine myself piloting my Viper with sublime skill to take out the evil Cylon menace. So now 30 years later I'm going to become a Colonial Warrior, the Viper may have to wait a little while. Nice to meet you folks. Coopers Pale Ale?? Good call Kronus. Ghost

Hey folks! Name's Erik, from Connecticut. Rebel Legion / 501st land knows me by SaberTech and TR-7395. I've been doing the costuming thing for a bit over 3 years now, and it's always been the draw of the pilots for me. So the same's going to be the case here! Starbuck fan from the Old days! Anyone else take a can of compressed "computer cleaner" and trigger it upside down till your hand froze?? HAHAHA Thanks for pointing me into this new avenue for me to experience, Ed!

Lets start this out the right way with a big "So Say We All" OOOPS wrong BSG LOL Couldnt resist there ED TEEE HEEE HEE well Ed knows me all too well since he's part of the same Garrison as myself even though he doesnt like that to get out. But I've been 50st since 2000 as well as part of the new Bsg life. I also grew up on tos of bsg and it was Awesome back in the day since I was a total Sci-fi junkie and needed my fix of space an aliens. the only true costume piece I would love to acquire at this time would be the viper helmet.
