Hi all! I'm David and I'm really excited to have found this group. I've been a fan of BSG since I was a kid and I still can't watch the opening sequence of The A-Team without going into a nerd-seizure when the Cylon walks by "Face". I'm also recently into Cosplay and I think a BSG uniform is the Holy Grail. I've always dreamed of having a warrior uniform. I'll be getting to work right away and will post pics as soon as I can. One question in regards to my username: I'm a captain on the fire dept here in South Bend in the 103rd battalion. The username above is the one I use as a gaming tag. Since there is a "rank structure" in the group, if anyone has an issue with my username, please let me know. I'll be glad to change it to something that won't cause trouble. Thanks!

And here on earth, Oviner Akhenaten, you are known as WHOM? We Colonials who have made it to Earth have all had to assume local cover identities. For any usages of any of our real names on Earth would involve too high a risk of culture shock to the locals. Here on Earth, I am known as Parker Gabriel. That is my local cover identity, at least.

Greetings, David. Welcome to Blackstar. I had originally picked the name Taurus the Bull because I'm an April baby. Reaper suggested giving my screen name a little bit of flair and now I am known as Lt Bull of Taura. Its works for me. Gives me a means of playing on my birth sign and stay in-universe here.
I'm looking forward to see your finished BSG costume. I'm still a recruit, myself. I have two in the works right now and they are almost complete.
Cheers!

Ok, I was going with Akhenaten for my screen name to get the Egyptian tie-in, but I think I like the name "Helios" better. Pulled that one from Greek mythology. I'm settled on Helios as long as no one has already claimed it. I can't find a member roster to check it so far. As far as my Earth identity, I am David Schackow and I'm a firefighter in South Bend, Indiana. Someday I hope to be a Viper pilot.

Looks like Helios is available. You can find the name list by clicking on the Members tab. I like that name! Here on earth, I go by Pearl, I hope you will enjoy our group as much as I do. I've only been here a few months myself, but I love the people here.
Lightning out.

Hmm...I should have recognized Akhenaten as ancient Sagitaran dialect meaning "the sun is satisfied." But I am not up on ancient languages--I am no linguist. Interestingly, Oviner Helios, YOUR name was one that Adama, our Commander, President of the Council Of The Twelve and Sire of Sires of Sires, was considering giving to his own first-born son, the now-legendary Captain Apollo!!! It took all the convincing his late lamented wife Ila could muster to tell him "no" when it came to that.

Hello everyone! I’m so excited to find a group like this. I am friends with a few 501st members in the New England area so finding a Battlestar group is mind-blowing to me (I‘m definitely not into Star Wars, though lol.. My friends are attempting to get me into it. I do like one character, but it‘s way to shameful to admit. I‘m more of a Star Trek girl.) I’m only a fan of the original series, and I’d rather not even give the latest version the time of day. I have been costuming/cosplaying professionally since June of this year, and my first con was MassiveCon in MA where I got to meet Dirk Benedict & have breakfast directly beside Richard but didn’t want to bother him of course, since that would have been super rude lol. I mainly cosplay Marvel characters ( Squirrel Girl, Rocket Raccoon, Ant-Man etc.) I also cosplay Face from The A-Team (in drag.. Lol. NOT pulling a Sackhoff on this.) and I was pointed in this direction from a facebook friend I met after looking around on a costuming page for a Colonial Warrior costume for Starbuck. Currently trying to decide where to get a uniform from. Not sure what his name is on here or I would shout him out (: I’m looking forward to getting to know everyone! Here are some shots from Massivecon (:

Welcome aboard. There are lots of friendly people ready to help get you outfitted. Thank you! I've been religiously browsing the costume board/threads... Boots seem to be the biggest challenge after deciding where to get a uniform but I'm leaning toward BSGorg on that front.

While the Sidi style is highly recognizable as the classic BSG boot, the show did use other boots for the pilot costume. Be sure to check out the screen caps in the female boot options thread here. The Sidi's I have found are unfortunately way too large. I found a custom replica pair on ebay but haven't seen anyone vouch for them. They don't look particularly good though. I have that thread bookmarked, the female options seem easy to find, but I'll still also be needing the classic mens style boot.

Welcome to the forum! Let us know if you need help getting a uniform or anything, lots of knowledgeable folks here. Thank you! I'm hoping to get started on my uniform as soon as next week (waiting for some paypal issues to clear up with the last person I commissioned ... terrible outcome!) There seems to be much more choices than I expected, but I'm kind of leaning toward the BSG.org uniforms and having my seamstress friend make the alterations I see a large majority here has had to do.

BSG.org is a good choice. Fellow member Apollo2 also makes uniforms. They look very nice but I can't personally speak to the quality. Start a uniform build thread and we can guide you there. I've been following his ebay listings & sharing them with my friend whose putting together an Adama cosplay. Along with lurking on his threads here. Will do!
