So, combining green paint, a scale model, a costume, screen-cap backgrounds, photoshop, and very little skill... If I can get a better handle on the lighting I may try more video instead of stills....

My only complaint is the Mk II landing gear on that Viper!!
Nice work my friend!

Man, Reaper, you have a good eye!
(The Revell Reissue kit didn't come with gear, so I made it so I could use the Mk II gear on either Viper....)
I was mostly jazzed that I was able to modify the kit so that I could open and close the canopy....

Looks good.
I plan on working to do some green screen stuff with live actors with the CG stuff I'm working on.
Would love to put together some type of short with some of the folks from this website that have their costumes.

Would you be up for putting back grounds on pictures of our members in uniform for profile pages? Eventually...when we find a web master, we are planning to have member pages. This would be awesome!

Matador- looks like I'm not too far away from you, I might be up for some video fun...
Monolith- Sure- the hardest (not actually hard, just time consuming) part is always editing out the actual background of the photo. If the shots are taken with an easy to chroma-key background, (Even my not-yet-lit-right green screen) it becomes almost trivial. Of course, if you want them interacting with the background (say, sitting on the nose of a Viper!) it takes a bit more planning....

No, I think the idea is to just put them into a static enviornment and make it look we are on the Galactica herself. The Bridge, the Officer's Club, the Launch bay, stuff like that

Shouldn't be too tough.
Step one is to collect and decide on the actual background photos to use.
Then we can match the lighting and possibly furniture (I imagine officer's club photos may have people seated) in front of the screen.
If we get the lighting and camera position about right, the photoshop step is a snap.

This can be possible. I'll check out some reference photos and try doing some modeling of the scenes... This of course will take some time, but nothing's impossible. felgacarb - I'm totally up for meeting up and brain storming. Went and saw Renissanceman today... My tunic is coming along nicely. He had to fit me for my collor. He's done a really good job at hidding my tummy

Yeah, that's my favorite part.
(It seems my Viper does not have those two pocket steps built into the side that Apollo always used to climb out... or maybe I'm just exiting on the wrong side!) (Ok, scrolling up this thread, you can see those pockets on the Viper in the background- but I reversed that photo to make it less obvious where I screen-grabbed it from, so they are actually on the other side...)

That would be great! CG would be the way to go for launch tube sequences and hanger bay backgrounds. Actually I think we could make a CG background work for any set we don't want to build.
The main thing we'd need is a story to tell. So far I've just been doing video and editing experiments. If we had an idea for a short, we could 'script' it and get serious about what we'd need to shoot and assemble it...

Sorry for taking so long. I've been on vacation. OK, I'll work on some hanger stuff. You've already seen my launch sequences. Hmmm... Story... Let's throw some ideas via email.
Just send me a private email and I will give you my home email address.
felgacarb could you email me or send me some green-screen footage of you climbing into cockpit and climbing out. I'll work on editing it into the CG stuff.
If your local, we can meet up to discuss story and exchange ideas.
Cheers, Matador

That's looking Galactica-shaped to me...
Sure, I can shoot some climb in and climb out 'footage'. Probably will be about 20 seconds each- The straight AVI format my camera outputs may make for large files, though. PM me an address to send them too, and I'll see if I can't get them out in the next couple of days. The biggest problem (and you can see hints of it in my video) is that my screen is only 8 feet tall, and a Viper's nose stands about 5 feet or more off the ground. So in order to not chop my head out of the frame, I have to have the nose lower and extend the jumping or climbing distance in the compositing step....

I built a canopy for green screen use. I'll probably adjust it some more, it could be a bit more squat... but here's a link to what it looks like: www.youtube.com/watch?v=cOi2QKK-1NgMostly, this video demonstrates that I need a helmet!!
