Just read that classic Battlestar Galactica series is FINALLY coming to the U.S. on Blu-Ray (probably early 2015). Here is the link to the post over at the digital bits: www.thedigitalbits.com/columns/my-two-cents/111114_1115 This follows the Region B German release that has been availble for nearly a year, as well as the UK Region Free release that is scheduled for (at the time of this post) 24 November 2014. Apparently, the series will be released in Japan and Australia as well in the near future. Edward

Wow and wow, thanks for the heads up, Edward. I know the 'effects footage' will remain grainy (just how it was filmed originally for the small screen.., as seen on the original movie blu-ray disk), but the rest of the principle photography footage (with actors..) should look pretty awesome.

As of today you can pre-order the U.S. Blu-Ray "Battlestar Galactica" set on Amazon. Release date is 12 May 2015 at the time of this post. But get this - there are two skus: an eight disc set with a recomposed 1.78:1 (16x9) aspect ratio, or an eighteen disc set with the 1.78:1 AND the original 1.33:1 aspect ratio. See the 24 November 2014 post at the digitalbits for more information: www.thedigitalbits.com/columns/my-two-cents/112414_1800No mention of the proposed CGI - wonder if Adam Lebowitz could do a Kickstarter to fund this. If you have not heard of this, check this out: www.thedigitalbits.com/columns/my-two-cents/111914_1515Edward

Great link, they look great but I'll STILL keep my Cylon-head standard DVD set for 'pure attitude' alone. Yes, the new CGI is very very nice (I signed the petition, like most...). They blended the cockpit scenes very well, from what I saw of the 'Living Legend' episode. My concern was that it would look 'too new' and clean for the original series. In some shots it does, but all-in-all is very impressive. My favorite example is Star Trek:TMP (Directors Cut), where CGI took the stance of 'What would it have looked like if we had just a little more time..?' Very smoothly integrated, didn't look CGI-ish at all. Thanks much, Edward.

All I can add to this discussion is an expression of hope. Hope, specifically, that the visual effects are similarly improved. When our Legend was ORIGINALLY being translated, visual effects for its recording were sorely limited in original number. Thus, they had to be used multiple times. That harmed the quality of the translation.
