I have two questions. I am planning on going to Galacticon and accepted as one of the volunteers for the convention. What does the admin here need of me to see the Galacticon forum here on Black Squadron? Also working on an outfit to have ready for Galacticon. I see there was a free pattern that was going to be posted on Black Squadron... www.therpf.com/f24/free-original-bsg-colonial-warrior-patterns-100566/Where can find that? Thanks in advance!

Ahh looks like this never happened. However, there is this mention...
"We're working on it now. Harnessworks over at Blackstar sent out some free patterns and said it was okay to make copies or host them. Her work looks great!"
So how about this?

Hey there! The Galacticon board is mainly for the Council and a few members from other boards but it is only regarding planning the panels and arranging transportation and what not. Most of the public information regarding the con can be found under conventions and events. That board is open to the entire membership. Post whatever you need or want to talk about there and you'll get a wider response! Getting the jacket pattern out there has been a bit more problematic. How to host that pattern has been troublesome. The pattern is excellent but Harnessworks drew them out by hand for the limited number of people she sent it to. It does not currently exist in digital form. She did this for free which was very gracious of her but also time consuming. She did give permission to copy the pattern and host it however we can. One thing to remember though, her pattern was only for the jacket. There is no pattern currently available for the tans. Conventions and Events. www.blackstarsquad.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=consSome very helpful information on constructing the tans. costumesandartwork.blogspot.com/search/label/Classic%20Battlestar%20GalacticaI hope that helps! -Mark

the only current way to share the jacket pattern is to take the pictures she posted of the pattern pieces and then enlarge them to the correct sizes (on regular paper, not photo paper) the photos do give you the complete pattern.

I second this. When making my daughter's jacket, I just freehanded the pattern from the pics. If you don't have experience with this, then just resize and print like Reaper suggested. The best way to do this at home is to use a banner/poster printing program. This will print the larger pictures on multiple sheets of paper, then you can tape them together. Here is one of the best FREE programs to use: www.posteriza.com/es/index.php?lang=en_US

A handheld scanner would probably do a better job of it:

Yes--not getting it digitized. Still need something to print large sizes at home, or take to a printing shop.

I tried copying the pattern at my local Kinkos and dropped over forty bucks only to have it come out wrong. Needless to say, I want to figure out all the kinks before trying it again! lol

As for the jacket pattern, who can I ask nicely for a copy of that?

It Will be posted here and the new site for everyone.

These prigrams should be relisted in the resources section. We should keep on top of items that need to be copied over there.

Hate to point out. All the uniforms I have made for myself I have had to resize myself and when taking a pattern and just putting it on a copier and making it bigger does not work. I learned that with the Star Trek Wrath of Kahn jacket. The jacket fit everywhere on me but the neck whole was huge.

The pattern is definitely just a guide. It will need to be customized just like any pattern to each person specifically. There really isn't a way around that. Between the old thread about attaching the buckles and all of Harnessworks notes it is definitely a good start.

The first costume I ever made was a TWOK uniform... somehow I managed to adapt a pattern for a bolero jacket(!)... I was 17 (many, many yarns ago!), just wish I could remember how I made it work! It wasn't quite accurate, as I used memory and b&w photo, but it looked good, and was recognisable (except for one drunk guy who insisted it was Thunderbirds..) I didn't do any sewing for over 20 years, but started going to events a couple of years back. I adapted long sleeve t-shirts to make Star Trek tos uniforms for red shirt record attempt at Leicester Space Centre last year, and have now got the Cosplay bug! I have made a Space 1999 medical uniform, a Storm (cartoon version) outfit, currently working on BSG tans, and plan to make a Princess Merida (Brave) costume...

I'd love to do a 1999 uniform next.., I met Robert Woods at my last 1999 convention in Tampa (Barry's last..), and he had SUCH a great Yr2 John Koenig ensemble. Great work, Rea, please upload pics at some point.

Harnessworks patterns were posted here as well along with a detailed thread on how to throw it all together. Check under tutorials!

Hi Rea! I'm working on my tans too. I used a basic pants pattern and made some minor adjustments. Do you have any shirt patterns, I've been trying to figure out how to do the bib. I have a basic long sleeve shirt pattern I plan to use, but the bib is still going to be hard. This is my first time ever making a costume.

Ooh... I feel for you! BSG costume has got to be one of, if not the most difficult to make! Good luck!

This will be the first time I have ever made clothing, even if it is a costume. If it weren't for my mom, who is a seamstress, helping me, I would be hopelessly lost. It isn't easy, I've already messed the pants up twice, and had to start over. But, I'm getting better, my pants look great now, and I hope to make more costumes in the future. I'll be posting a tutorial for my project when I'm done. Safe flying, Warriors!

Great costumes! I have zero ability to make clothing. I am in awe of those who can. Ditto here, great work.

Rea, LOVE that Doctor Russell coat and outfit you had on in your picture.. Typically I'm more a Season 1 fan, I thought the Y2 styles were outstanding.
