It has been a yahren and a half since the Galactica faced and destroyed the lone Cylon Basestar.
And As bad as things had been over the Yahren and a half since the Galactica left the Colonies, things seemed to be going good for the fleet now. No sign of the Cylons. That Basestar might have been on a scouting mission. a forward scout if anything.
After the battle, The fleet took some time to collect as much of the wreckage as possible. For the first time ever, the Galactica stopped to recover the materials to rebuild. Both Colonial and Cylon materials had been recovered. THe foundry ship, not having to refine the materials, tripled production of replacement parts. And the Ships of the fleet have undergone repairs and in some cases upgrades.
a Short time after the battle,s the Galactica came across another System. Again, finding no signs of the 13th Tribe, but they did find more materials they would need.
Food, Fuel, Metals, all in abundance. Again, the foundry Ship, and now the Celestra, the electronic's Ship of the fleet, began a very important project. headed up by Colonel Croft. Restored to his old Rank after the mission on Arcta, and now in command of the Celestra, after the Death Of Commander Kronus, began the construction of new Vipers. And as aside Project, as the new Vipers were tested and assigned to first Blue Squadron, and then SilverSpar Squadron, The older Vipers were stripped to their frams and rebuilt, incorporating as many of the upgrades as possible. For the first time since Cimtar, the Galactica now carried a Maximum Load of Vipers. With the Cadet Programs coming into their own as well, There were also new Warriors to fly these Vipers.
As the Reconditioned Vipers were finished, they were being shuttled off the few ships in the fleet that could support them. For now, they were simply being stored. Warriors were being assigned to watch over them. It was concidered a punisment duty to some of the Warriors. Seeing how the Prison Barge was currently the ship in the Fleet with the most Vipers Stored aboard. (followed by the Celestra herself).
Then, 2 Years after that Battle. The Cylons returned. The Fleet had spent too much time stocking up on supplies in that system. a Killer Force of Raiders launched at the fleet. Blue, Red and SilverSpar Squadrons launched to meet the threat. It was quite the battle. As fierce as Gamoray had been. And Raiders were starting to get through to the fleet.
But then, several Warriors aboard the Prison Barge had enough. Ordering the Blackshirts to help ready the Vipers for launch, And communicating with the Warriors aboard the Celestra, They were able to get half the Vipers Launched from both ships.
These Warriors, Glad to be in the fight and not being hunted helplessly, defended the fleet against the Raiders who got past the Interceptor force.
A sectar after the battle, the 3 Senior Warriors, and Colonel Croft stood in front of Commander Adama and Captain Apollo.
Having proven that several of those ships COULD launch a defense force of Vipers, They were asking permission to form a new Squadron. These Vipers would never launch with the SPeed of a Viper from the Galactica, but it would do as a second line of defense.
A second request was made. One of the Warriors, placesd a Pin on the Commanders Desk. "Commander, With your Permission, We would like to use this as our Uniform Collar pins, instead of the Galactica's. We found it being made on one of the ships of the fleet. You'll notice it's very similar to the insignia used for the Areon Defense forces. We'd like to adopt it for our Squadron. And call ourselves BlackStar Squadron."
"You will officially be based from the Prison Barge. IT's got the biggest Crew area for you, and currently contains most of your Vipers. But We all know you will be spread through the entirety of the fleet. Good luck to you Officers!"
And there began the story of Blackstar Squadron.
