I send this message to address a question that has troubled many of us: How to carry whatever personal gear one possesses, aside from any sidearms we may have. The relevance of this question is the fact that, by regulation, our uniforms are not allowed to incorporate pockets into their designs.
I had already proposed one option for doing so, that of constructing, using for the purpose the same component materials that our uniforms employ, specialized pouches, hanging from our belts, that could be employed strictly for such gear. It will be the option I will employ.
I welcome any other suggestions for other possibilities, not least from the Sires and Siresses. Similarly, those who may also have encountered the same issue are welcome to respond.

Spectre and I discussed a hollowed out compartment on the back of the communicator or languatron/hand computer with a sliding compartment to store various items. I also had the idea to cast a phone case into the back of a communicator. I haven't figured out how to make it work yet. But that would be a fantastic way to disguise "civilian" tech. lol

Or just carry a backpack around with you at a convention. When you stop to take pics with fans, you can always put the backpack on the floor out of sight of the camera angle and then retrieve it when the photo op is over. I saw a guy at Emerald City ComiCon do that very thing.
But I do like Archon's idea of using materials that are of the likeness of the uniform to incorporate such a thing. Maybe a backpack could be made out of materials that could be made to look like it came from the Battlestar universe.

If you want to carry a bag (I hate carrying such things in uniform. Ruins the whole point for me!) you could always recreate the gear bags from Living Legend.
For me it is all about concealing anything that takes the uniform out of of the BSG universe. I don't even like wearing con badges. I'm looking for a way to work those into costume.

I really like the backpack idea, Mark. I looked at it and will probably pick it up myself. For larger stuff (like glossies..) I was going to grab a thin military document box.., dark OD in color. Not canon, but I'm not givin' a whoop.

I remind the Sires and Siresses that mine is intended to be a dress uniform, NOT a battle suit. No option for carriage of personal gear was known for use with them. Hopefully, my dress cape should conceal the pouches hanging off my belt.
I may also order embroidered Colonial Service "sri yantra" patches in the same colors as my avatar image uses, blue and silver, to match the colors of my dress uniform. If I obtain those, then they may be secured to the pouches that will then hang from my belt.

My "convention bag" Not cannon, not even very BSG relevant. I actually made this bag out of old army duds a few years ago for my last big trip. It's an average messenger bag, with over the shoulder strap. Big enough to carry autographs and other souvenirs, and I'm picking up autographs for several friends and family members who can't attend, so I need all the room I can get. Room for snacks and bottled water, maybe even a flask of ambrosia. It will get the job done, although I'm sure the sight of it is making some of you cringe at its non-cannon attributes. Front side with Blue Squad patch and Blackstar badge, attached with velcro. Fairly cannon. And... The not-so-cannon backside, where I display part of my patch collection proudly.

Does everyone remember the backpack that was offered along side the jackets back in the Starlog days? Man I miss that magazine.

I use my leg computer to carry things around at conventions....it is built so the flight board the calculators are mounted on can still open....plenty of room for wallet, cell phone etc....completely hidden.

Hey, I'm going to get the same thing.., did you get olive or brown..? That looks just like my old Army map case, style-wise.., the olive version.
Will have my Arcta patch on as well.

Sorry, I couldn't see your pics at my work (firewalls...). I ordered the Olive color, but that Brown sure does look nice. I might order the Brown too. Here is what I will be carrying at G4. A $15 Rothco brown map case bag ( Amazon link) with a Blue Squadron patch. It is roomy but small enough to carry easily...

All well and good, Sire Monolith Twenty-One. But each costs ten cubits! I cannot spare that much currency. Yet.

As a leather worker who makes pouches, that is actually a pretty good deal.

Jeeez, Colonel Archon, someone'll have to provide you a class on managing finances...
$10 is a STEAL. If my Magnoli didn't already have internal pockets, I would definitely buy these for G4.
Great find, Monolith21.

$10 is a steal. There is easily $5-6 worth of materials in each pouch, so whoever is making them, isn't getting rich from them. If one were to have a similar pouch commissioned, it could easily run the $15-20 range. They look relatively easy to make, and I just might make a few for myself, as I do dabble in leather-craft as one of my many hobbies.
In fact, if one put a small Blue Squadron patch on the pouch, it would look very cool.

That would look great! They ended up doing the pouches to my specs for only $5 more. I ordered a custom pouch for my iPhone (which met a horrific death at Comic Con hence the new protection) and one that looks to be about the size of the battery pack worn on the warrior belts. I had them make it with the "V front" closure and a black snap so that it didn't stand out.
That is about as cheap as they come for a leather pouch. Heck, the camera case I was using before cost more than that and it didn't have the same look!

I'm looking for some sort of messenger bag to use for this convention, myself. Although, I do like the notion of making pouches with smaller BSG patches mounted on them. I may look into doing something like this...

Ah, you missed the qualifier with which I ended my message about the pouches! I said that I could not afford the requisite ten cubits YET. Allow enough time--say, a full sectar--and that WILL change for the better.

I intend to make a few for myself, for PHX Comicon, but; I will tool this logo onto it. Envision the pouch posted above with this (picture) on it. It will be awesome.
